The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Historical Society Issues 150th Anniversary Commemorative Coin and Pin

The Newfoundland legislature, then bicameral, agreed in April 1871 to create a new police force for the Colony. Their decision was prompted by the British government’s decision to withdraw the garrison which had hitherto supported the Governor in maintaining “peace, order and good government” in the Island of Newfoundland and along the coast of Labrador.  The Governor appointed Thomas Foley as the first Chief of the Terra Nova Constabulary, as the force was originally known.  A year later, the legislature reinforced the force’s establishment by statute.

To mark the 150th Anniversary of this re-organization, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Historical Society issued, in 2021, a Commemorative Coin and Pin to all uniformed and civilian members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
